Happy new year! Hope everyone’s holidays went well. I took a well needed break and spent some quality time with family and friends, after a few months of continuous craft shows. I feel like a brand new woman! Here are some highlights from the last little while:

Update / Inspired

I must admit, this month I got a little carried away on the home decorating front. Like a little birdie, I nested away, integrating concepts concocted by other people’s imaginations with my personal visions. I painted door frames in aqua blues, dabbed robin red paint (as shown in the photographs) on the main wall of the bedroom, and mixed green paints to create the perfect shade for the washroom.

I did, eventually, come out of this decor frenzy and re-entered the real world. As I am new to Quebec, I have had looming questions regarding my legal responsibilities.  I met with a small business advisor, so alas, I can sleep soundly knowing what I do/don’t need to do. Hurray!

*Side note: If you live in the Montreal area, and run a small business, I strongly recommend contacting the CDEC. They can help with any questions you may have!*

On my way home from the meeting I was feeling confident and alive. Although the idea to chop off my hair has been bouncing around in my head for the last few weeks, I made the rash decision to do it before the feeling wore off. Just as I made this decision I saw a cute little salon, and walked inside. The rest is history. Hope you like it!

To close, I will leave you with photos from the McHaffie flea market. It was rainy and cold, and I didn’t make a penny, but we had fun.

Update / Gratified

A week full of decorating, unpacking and shopping. Montreal: I like you.

Update / Jubilant

So. I’m moving…AGAIN. I am relocating to Montreal on Tuesday. I do not speak french (well…un petit peu), but am always up for a challenge. The city has called my name since I was a child, so as you can imagine I am a bundle of excitement and nerves. As long as I can order a cup of coffee without too much confusion, I think I’ll be okay. *Fingers crossed*

I have finished packing, so I think I’ll take advantage of this free time to give you two highlights from the last couple of weeks.

The Ottawa Beach Bash was fantastic! There is nothing like doing what you are passionate about while listening to talented musicians play some tunes. I let my inner hippie out, took off my socks, and chatted with some truly inspiring people.

A couple of weeks ago I contacted the shop owner of Adorit Boutique  in hopes that if requested to have my jewelry in her shop she would not laugh in my face, and to my delight she said yes! I spent yesterday’s afternoon watching as she picked the pieces that she loved the most and trying to look cool.

Make sure to swing by the shop if you find yourself in the Ottawa downtown area. It is truly unique, featuring fair trade handmade items from artisans who design one of a kind pieces. If you have not been there before, it is on 153 York St in the Byward Market.

Talk to y’all soon!

Update / Roused

Alright folks. So, it turns out the grass IS greener on the other side.

The Preston Farmers market was a great success. The co-managers Kelly Butler & Chris Penton were so welcoming, and my fellow vendors (Nosh Nerds, Bez Gluten-Free, Purple UrchinThe Veggie Underground CSAFoster Family FarmHelios Farm, Knock Out Beef, Face to GraceTop Shelf Preserves, C&A Custom Creations and Kracker’s Katering) were such a pleasure to talk to. East of Gatineau and Washboard Sue filled my ears with eclectic and beautiful music, making the atmosphere perfect to show off my creations.

My favorite part of the day was meeting Meagan Hanes from “The life and times of Meagan Hanes“. I was standing at my table, feeling somewhat self-conscious and thinking about my recent choices, when this bubbly girl comes over to my table. She was so full of life with such a kind energy about her, and we quickly slipped into conversation. We talked about artistic expression, life choices, our goals/wants/wishes, and the importance of being true to ones self.  She reminded me that I was on the right track, and gave me the confidence to face the day. Thanks Meagan!

This week I’m focused on building my inventory, and finding more fairs and markets in the Ottawa area. Stay tuned for sneak peeks and new stock!

Ta for now.
